A practical guide for independent shop owners

Check the path from product page to purchase.

A short, repeatable check can catch a wrong price, a dead link or a checkout snag before it becomes a customer conversation. Use this walkthrough when you update products, change your theme or payment settings, and after a shopper reports a problem.

01

Make product pages match what you sell

Choose a few products, including one with variants or low stock, and compare the live page with the details in your shop admin.

  • Confirm the product name, photos, price, selected size or colour, and sale terms are current.
  • Check that availability changes correctly when a variant is sold out or stock is limited; do not rely on a label alone if the quantity is wrong in your admin.
  • Open the delivery, returns and product-detail links. Check that the information is easy to find and agrees with the offer on the page.
  • Use search, category pages and any recent campaign links to reach the product. Confirm each route opens the intended item.
03

Repeat the check on a phone

A desktop layout can hide a mobile problem. Use a real phone when possible and complete the same route there.

  • Check that product options, price, stock, delivery details and the add-to-cart control remain visible and usable without awkward zooming.
  • Tap links and controls with your thumb. Watch for menus or consent banners covering the next step, cramped fields, and buttons too close together.
  • Notice slow or incomplete loads on mobile data as well as Wi-Fi. Retry once and record whether the delay happens on the product page, cart or checkout.
04

Walk through the whole purchase journey

Test from product selection through the order confirmation page. Use your platform’s test-payment mode where available; do not place a live order unless you intend to buy it.

  • Check when delivery charges, taxes and other costs become clear. Unexpected costs shown late can make shoppers reconsider.
  • See whether guest checkout is available and whether every requested form field is needed. Forced account creation and lengthy forms can add friction.
  • Confirm the payment options shown match the methods you have enabled. A buyer may leave if their preferred option is missing.
  • Wait for each step to finish. Slow pages, unclear errors or repeated loading can interrupt a purchase; note the exact step and time.
  • When using test mode, verify the confirmation, order record and any expected customer email or stock update. Stop before payment if the route would charge a real card.
05

Record what happened and escalate clearly

A precise report helps you or your provider reproduce the issue without guessing.

  • Write down the date and time with time zone, device and browser, page URL, steps taken, expected result and what actually appeared.
  • Keep a screenshot or screen recording if it helps. Remove customer details and never include passwords or payment-card data.
  • Retry once and check whether the issue affects another product or device. If it remains, contact the provider responsible for that step: shop platform or theme, hosting, or payment service.
  • Include the evidence and any recent change that may be relevant. Record the provider’s response and final resolution in your own issue log. Latchkite’s incident-history screen can show saved check records when available.
